Layer on Layer on L A Y E R

Hello, layers.

One thing I love about the Fall/Winter season are all of the layering pieces available. There’s no one that does it better than Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Personally, I think they were the layering Queen B’s before layering became a trend. I know for me, one principle I’m aware of is my height. So, when it comes to layering, I don’t want to look more short than I am. Like the other day I was dressing with my skinny jeans, my over-sized thermal, my denim top and a cardigan. To add length and height I wore a long necklace, heels and my hair in a bun. Below are some excellent layering examples.

Alice + Olivia

Recently for class I did an journalism entry on Alice + Olivia and it left me in awe. I knew of the designer and have liked her pieces, but reading about her story and actually diving into her lines, I just fell in love with line. Her story begins with a pair of jeans which she created into a pair of trousers that were feminine and elongated the legs, but my favorite part is that she was designing sites for other people when this fell into her lap. Many of us dream that someone whose well known, say Lisa Kline, would stop us on the street and demand our business. Chances are it isn’t going to happen unless you are young Stacey Bendet.

Her clothing is designed for every kind of woman or the woman you wish to be. Her dresses not only look beautiful but can make you feel beautiful. Her eye for details and mixing patterns is a talent not many posses. I absolutely love the edgy, rock-n-roll look that is slightly romantic.  Below are a couple of my favorite pieces found on http://www.aliceandolivia.com

disclaimer: I’m fully aware everything is black & white, but you just cannot go wrong with these two colors!

f a l l i n’ | for booties and giant sweaters

I’m pretty sure at least 9 out of 10 girls love boots and giant sweaters. However, done the wrong way they can look a little frumpy. I haven’t been a poncho fan for long, but as soon as I laid eyes on this one I couldn’t pass it up! Ponchos can be an unflattering piece on a women, especially us shorter women.

The cowl neck poncho I’m wearing is open on both sides, showing off a little more of the figure than the average, over sized poncho. I’ve paired it with ripped, black skinny jeans and my go-to red ankle boots by Matisse. One of my favorite casual, fall looks.
